When the day is started in a mindset of gratitude, happiness comes easily as you are reminded of all the blessings in your life.
Your thousand year old brain is wired to find the negative and protect you from bad situations, it’s up to you to rewire it! Activate the RAS otherwise known as the reticular activating system and create a habit of being grateful. What you focus on expands!!
Have you ever purchased a new car? Phone? Purse? In the days and weeks leading up to that purchase, reflect back, what do you remember seeing everywhere you went? Maybe it was a blue car? You started noticing all the blue cars didn’t you? Maybe it was a certain make and model? I bet you noticed all of those on the road as well. It’s no coincidence, that’s your RAC at work.
The average person makes on average 35,000 decisions per day!! Without your RAC you would be overwhelmed with all of those decisions every second of the day. It essentially helps you focus on the important ones as long as that’s the information you are feeding your brain…
People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they’re thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.
Starting off the day with gratitude can change your entire perspective on decisions you make, reactions you have and just your overall happiness. Adopting a morning gratitude practice can make a huge difference in your overall mood and outlook on life. I practice this every morning with my children. We keep a daily journal where we all write down first thing in the morning, 3 things we are grateful for.
It’s easiest to build and maintain a grateful mindset when you physically write down the things you’re grateful for. Keeping a journal also lets you look back over your past entries, which can be helpful for your personal development.
You might not be sure what to write at first, and that’s fine. Write the first thing that comes to mind. There are no rules for practicing gratefulness.
It takes a while to cultivate the mentality of being grateful. If you’ve been stuck in a negative mindset for a while, it will take weeks – if not months – to unlearn that mindset. Commit to writing in your journal frequently, and try not to miss any days if you can help it.
Consider forming a new habit, first thing in the morning, grab your journal and write down 3-5 things that you are grateful for. You can start a 66 day challenge to help you form the habit. Keep the calendar log sheet near the journal to mark off the consecutive day you complete the new habit.
Starting and maintaining a gratitude practice is simple, although not always easy. I agree with you Jeff create and form a healthy habit, since habits make up who we are. We recently did a show on just that if you would like to look back through our previous episodes.
It’s been said in many different ways – whatever you focus on expands. What I say is “Whatever you focus on is what you get; negative or positive, so focus on the positive and you’ll bring more positive into your life.”
I believe with FOCUS we can achieve almost anything. Think back to a time you were really, really focused… Look what you accomplished. Things just seemed to fall into place!
Start a new habit, create a gratitude journal, write down your affirmations! We know what we feed our brains is what we believe.
We attract that which we give our energy to. You manifest what you desire. What you focus on expands. What are you going to choose to focus on today?
